Family Mediation Program

The Family Mediation Program provides child custody and parenting time mediation that is required by the court in certain Lane County domestic relations legal actions.  To use the program, you must first qualify under the Lane County Court rules.  To find out if you qualify to use the Family Mediation Program, please contact an attorney, Lane County Circuit Court at 541-682-4020, or the Family Mediation Program at 541-682-3962.

Parents may choose to use an independent mediator instead of the Family Mediation Program.  The cost of an independent mediator is the responsiblity of the parents.

A word to parents...

Mediation is a way to plan for your children's future in a private, confidential setting.  Many parents report that mediation helps to increase trust, improve communication and develop new skills in handling disagreements.

Parents know their children best.  If you and the other parent can make decisions together about your children in mediation you will avoid the uncertainty and expense of having a judge decide for you.  You are more likely to be satisfied with your own parenting plan than with one that is imposed on you by the Court.

Your children will benefit greatly if they can see both parents working cooperatively to plan for their future.
